One good swing was enough. Leading 1-0 into the final inning, Elkhorn gave up a two-run homerun, losing a heartbreaker 2-1 to Waverly on Sept. 4. Sophomore pitcher Brittney Banks said it was a tough defeat to take. “[The loss] was tough, but we didn’t play bad, and we had a good night,” Banks said. The difference in the game was giving up a two run homerun in the 5th inning. The Elkhorn girls had just come off the North High Tournament Championship, where they won three games while only allowing one run during that stretch. The team will take a 5-2 into its Sept. 6 game at Bennington.
