Basketball Opens Tonight Against Waverly

Members of the team break the huddle. The Antlers play tonight at Waverly.

Members of Elkhorn basketball team huddle around coach Spencer Petersen. The Antlers begin the season tonight at Waverly.

The boys basketball team travels to Waverly tonight to take on the Vikings at 7:45. With most of the team having gone through conditioning since early October, they have been chomping at the bit to play an actual game that counts. But some members are just getting to the court after being a part of the football team’s successful playoff run.
Transitioning from football to basketball has been a challenge, senior Dan said. “Just yesterday I had to get my ankle taped because of something that happened in the state (football) championship game.” Senior Mike  also said it is a tough transition from football to basketball in a short amount of time. “You aren’t energized, and you really had no time to recover from football bumps and bruises,” he said.
Team members said they have relatively high expectations for the season. We expect to win the majority of their games,” Dan said.
Mike said the team’s expectations are similar to the expectations of the football team.  “We have just as high of expectations as we did for football,” he said.   The Antlers tip-off their season tonight against Waverly.
